Hi Tokyoites,

We are DREAD - a Berlin & newly Tokyo-based zine on existentialism and all things dreadful, and for our very first Tokyo Issue we are looking for submissions from writers & visual artists.

About DREAD

Our motto:

This is a zine. You can hold it.
No lessons, no takeaways.
Sometimes not even sense.
We collect the leftovers: half-thoughts, misplaced feelings,
existence at room temperature.
We invite you to sit with it.
Come visit, stay for a while.
Or don’t.
Dread will be here
when you get back.

SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES:

We are looking for: micro/flash fiction, poetry, digital art, illustration, collage, photography...

- 700 words max for a double spread
- A5 format for visuals & high resolution
- NO AI!!
- Work should not be published elsewhere

Some possible themes to address if you need inspiration:

tokyo is a city that runs perfectly and never stops. what does that do to a body? what happens between public composure and private collapse?

people go missing quietly in the city. what does it feel like to dissolve? or watch something dissolve?

jiko (事故): the train stops. an announcement. everyone looks at their phones. what does that silence feel like?

being foreign: the dread of standing out & the dread of being erased

...or whatever feels true to your dread
